South Bohemian conservationists are planning investments worth tens of millions of CZK this year

This year, conservationists plan to invest tens of millions of crowns in South Bohemian state monuments. Červená Lhota Castle will repair the dam of the castle pond, another part of the renovation of the complex will begin at Vimperk Castle, and repairs to the Bellarie summer house will continue in Český Krumlov. Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle will build an irrigation system in the upper and lower castle gardens, according to spokeswoman for the South Bohemian conservationists, Markéta Slabová.

In Vimperk in the Prachatice region, the upper and lower castles will continue to be restored. “We managed to obtain a subsidy from the Ministry of Culture, in the amount of CZK 200 million. It will include the renovation of not only interiors, but also roofs, facades, surfaces of all three courtyards and their small buildings such as fountains, walls or terraces,” the spokeswoman said. The work will last until 2027. Last June, conservationists opened a repaired upper chateau in Vimperk. It offers two sightseeing routes, the halls of the Vimperk Museum, the medieval Wolf’s Tower and two chapels have also been restored. The costs were almost CZK 137 million, most of which were covered by EU subsidies. So far, two thirds of the area has been repaired.

At Český Krumlov Castle, they are preparing an exhibition on aristocratic festivities in the 16th to 19th centuries, with which the new castle gallery in the Mint in the second courtyard will open in the summer. Therefore, the conservationists will restore items worth three million crowns, such as a men’s suit of jackets, graphics or tapestries. The repair of the Bellarie summer house, which began last year, also continues in Krumlov. According to older information, the estimated costs are CZK 50 million.

“Bellarie is now one huge, large construction site. Especially in the basement and in the parts of the stone cladding of the terraces. The basement is evicted, dismantled, sewerage, wiring, insulation are being repaired. for the theatrical season so that the theatergoers can partially use it,” said Pavel Slavko, Krumlov castellan.

The renewal of the water system will continue at the Hluboká chateau, a multi-year investment worth 8.5 million. Last year, conservationists repaired the waterworks, this year they want to build an irrigation system in the gardens and restore the facade and wooden elements of the historic reservoir. Construction facilities for CZK 27 million will be built at Kratochvíle Castle, and the restorers will repair the facade of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.

He will repair the technical background at the Červená Lhota chateau. Repair of the castle pond dam there will cost CZK 15 million, construction of a heat pump at the bottom of the pond CZK 22.5 million. In the Zlatá Koruna monastery, it will modify the garden between convents, remove non-native shrubs along the roads, and widen the main sidewalk by half a meter for the convenience of visitors. Parts of the collapsed historic fortification wall will begin to be repaired at Zvíkov this year, and plaster repairs and sgraffito restoration will continue at Landštejn Castle.

From January to October 19, 629,171 people visited the South Bohemian state monuments. About 17 percent less year-on-year, a decrease of 41 percent compared to 2019. Admission revenues fell by 14 percent year on year to CZK 73.8 million. Like the year before, on the other hand, more people were heading to the gardens.
