Construction of 1,053 apartments began in South Bohemia in the first half of this year, 778 less than in the same period of the previous year. The decrease is the largest among all regions of the Czech Republic. Companies completed 1,005 apartments in southern Bohemia from January to June, an increase of 178 year-on-year. Almost half of them originated in the České Budějovice district. Here the builders built the most apartment buildings in the region. This follows from information from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).
About 76 percent of the apartments that have started to be built in the region are in new family houses. There are 801 apartments, which was almost a quarter more year-on-year. “On the contrary, the construction of apartments in new apartment buildings recorded an unprecedented decline in the first half of the year,” the statisticians said. Construction of only 73 apartments of this type began, which is 946 fewer than in the same period last year. No new apartment buildings were built from January to June in Písecko, Strakonicko and Táborsk.
The number of apartments that companies started to build grew the most year-on-year in Písecko, where it doubled. For the most part, single-family homes were involved. Even so, Písecko remains the district where the least number of apartments started to be built in southern Bohemia. České Budějovice accounted for almost thirty percent of the apartments that were being built. All over the region, apartments in new family houses prevailed.
The number of apartments completed and approved by builders in the first half of this year increased by roughly a fifth year-on-year in southern Bohemia. “Traditionally, completed apartments in new family houses predominated in the region, and their share in completed construction amounted to almost two thirds,” said Irena Votrubová from the regional administration of the ČSÚ in České Budějovice. Completed apartments in new apartment buildings increased by less than thirty percent. Almost 46 percent of all completed apartments are in Českobudějovick. Most new apartment buildings were built in this district, 80 percent of all.
In the Czech Republic, the construction of 22,721 apartments started in the first half of this year, almost ten percent more than in the same period last year. Companies in the Czech Republic completed 17,403 apartments from January to June this year, an increase of almost three percent year-on-year.
