Spanish businesses in no rush to open

11 May 2020

The National Federation of Self-Employed Workers Associations (ATA) claims that 60 percent of all companies are remaining closed, a figure that drops to 40 percent in areas that have already entered phase one. Overall, just 20 percent of all bars and restaurants have opened for business, though in locations where the reopening has begun and terraces are functioning, half of all establishments are trading. Meanwhile, 30% of catering businesses have opened on Monday, May 11. The highest percentage of openings has occurred in the hairdressing and beauty salon sector, with nearly 75 percent of all boutiques already open. But just 18 percent of the country’s real estate agencies are open today along with a mere 5 percent of all hotels.
