State to buy railway properties worth CZK 3.2bn

The Czech state might buy properties owned by Czech Railways (ČD), a state-owned company. Transport Minister Dan Ťok said the government could pay CZK 3.2bn for several railway station buildings.

The transaction is expected be finalized by the year end, according to Czech TV. The European Commission said that in all, Czech Railways could sell 1,600 buildings to the state. The public railway authority (SŽDC) would manage the buildings. The sale will allow the state to tap EU funds to help cover repairs costs of the railway buildings. However, However, the price proposed by the ministry exceeds the price sanctioned by the EU in June by 10 percent.
