Czech state offers hotels CZK 340 per room in subsidies

22 July 2020

During the state of emergency, Czech hotel operators lost roughly CZK 1,000 per room per day, according to the Association of Hotels and Restaurants. Its president Václav Stárek says that the government’s initial promise to help hotels will end up being far less generous than his group had demanded. The subsidies will be handed out in accordance to the type of hotel asking for help and the quality of the service it provides. That means that 5-star hotels will receive the most money (CZK 330 per room per day), while 3-star hotels will qualify for just CZK 300. Not surprisingly, the funds are not being offered to companies involved in short-term rentals through platforms such as Airbnb. Hotel operators had hoped the government would offer at least CZK 400 per room per hotel for the highest quality accommodations. According to a recent study by Cushman & Wakefield, up to 20 percent of all Czech hotels aren’t expecting to open until September.
