Czech Justice Minister Robert Pelikán has come up with a plan to offload historical buildings that currently accommodate legal activities and build one central courthouse where all state legal matters would take place. “The courts are scattered around Prague in unsuitable buildings,” he told Hospodářské noviny. Pelikán has not announced which buildings will be put up for sale. However, a former monastery on Karmelitská street and buildings at Ovocný trh and on Spálená street in Prague 1 are used by the courts. Buildings on Karlovo náměstí and Slezská and Francouzská streets in Prague 2 are also used by the courts. Pelikán believes that proceeds from the sales would cover the cost of developing a central courthouse. The location for the central courthouse has not been finalized, but Zbraslav, on the outskirts of Prague, is under consideration.
