State wants guarantees from banks on road projects

20 July 2012

The Polish General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) worries there will be more road investments delays, the Puls Biznesu daily reports, demanding additional financing from the banks to cover the construction delays and penalties. The state’s request went out to Caixa Bank, which is providing the funds for the A4 motorway project, currently under construction by Mostostal Warszawa. GDDKiA hopes to secure a PLN 22m guarantee from the bank that the project will be delivered on time. Mostostal, however, does not agree with the way this is being handled and has asked the court to suspend the proceedings. “The contractor applied to a different court from the one that had issued the decision, on the guarantees,” said Urszula Nelken, GDDKiA’s spokesperson. “As soon as we receive the decision, we plan to appeal.”
