Statistics Finland reports decline in nationwide apartment prices

3 May 2018

The average price for apartments in Finland has slipped slightly, according to recent data. Statistics Finland claims that the dip in the national average isn’t matched by continuing hikes in flats in Helsinki. In the first three months of 2018 apartment prices in Helsinki have gained 2.1 percent, but areas outside the capital region have seen them fall by 1.9 percent, compared to the same period last year. Within these statistics there was a clear distinction between older and newer properties, with older properties holding or gaining more value than new builds. Prices of new builds in the Helsinki region have fallen by 0.2 percent, with the rest of the country seeing a 0.9 percent fall. Meanwhile, older buildings in the Helsinki region have risen by 0.2 percent, but outside the capital there’s been a 1 percent fall. This information comes after a Danske bank report which suggested prices of apartment would rise in 32 municipalities and fall in 70 over the next two years.
