Students in Central Bohemia often use accommodation in private apartments. There are no traditional dormitories in the region, but there are student dormitories. In most cases, university students arrange their own accommodation. The Faculty of Biomedical Engineering (FBMI) of the Czech Technical University, located in Kladno, also offers accommodation in the dormitories in Prague.
FBMI is the only public university in the Central Bohemian Region. In total, approximately 2,000 students study there. “This year, the faculty had no indication that there were any problems with accommodation,” said ČVUT spokeswoman Kateřina Veselá. According to her, in addition to the Prague dormitories, students can also use the youth accommodation that operates at secondary schools, the faculty does not interfere in this. According to the website, the prices range from approximately CZK 2,800 to CZK 3,800 per month, mostly multi-bed rooms with shared bathroom facilities for several rooms.
Among the options are the home at the Secondary Technical School of Construction and Business Academy Kladno, the Sítná Youth Home (so-called GDM) or the Ymca Youth Home. Some students also rent private apartments. Apartment rental prices in Kladno start at approximately CZK 10,000 per month, without fees.
There are no classic dormitories for university students in Mladá Boleslav. “They use shared apartments and different types of accommodation facilities the most,” said Lucie Kočí, head of the Škoda Auto University’s study department. The school has an average of 1,200 students. “We have a contract with Hotel na Věnci, where we have 30 places available, which we mostly offer to foreign students,” added Kočí.
On its website, the school also recommends to students Ubytování na Karmeli in the city center, the monthly rent there is CZK 4,500. According to 20-year-old Kateřina, who will start her first year this year, apartment prices for students in Mladá Boleslav are very high. “It starts at CZK 15,000 and those are studio apartments,” she said.
