The new SUAS GROUP, founded by Sokolovská uhelná, is completing the reconstruction of apartment buildings near the Alfa cinema in Sokolov. It plans to rent out the last new flats in them in the summer. Thanks to the renovation of the houses, the formerly troubled area is becoming a popular place to live. The apartments are in great demand among residents of the Sokolov region, Stanislav Dohnal, vice-chairman of the board of SUAS Solution, announced today.
The apartment buildings near the Alfa cinema were originally owned by the town. More than 20 years ago, however, they were sold to a private owner who let most of them fall into disrepair. Problem residents lived there and the area was considered socially excluded. Sokolovská uhelná bought the houses in 2018.
The company is now renovating ten buildings there, which contain 78 apartments. They are in Hornická, Sokolovská, Heyrovského and Pod Háječkem streets. The reconstruction of the first houses began in February 2021. “The first stage, that is, the first three houses that are currently occupied, cost CZK 56 million. Then a stage of insulation of other houses was underway, where the cost was around CZK 17 million. And currently the reconstruction of the last three houses is being completed, where the price is CZK 57 million,” Dohnal said.
The intention is to offer attractive housing to local residents and people who come to the Sokolov region for work. According to the management of Sokolovska uhelna, there is a shortage of skilled labour in the town, many workers are retiring and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find new employees. There are plans to use some of the apartments as staff flats. The company plans to offer the last flats in the summer and is already registering a lot of interest. The advantage is the rent at reasonable prices and good accessibility to the centre.
According to the company’s management, the first houses have already made the environment significantly more pleasant. The intention is also welcomed by the city administration. According to the mayor of Sokolov, Petr Kubis (ANO), the situation in the locality has calmed down and the transformation is perceived positively by the neighbouring residents. The town has dealt with several complaints there in the past, and a petition has also been drawn up.
