Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze invests €30m in Moldova

The Japanese automotive supplier Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze has opened a new electric cabling systems plant in Moldova. The 27,000 sqm facility was built in the Balti economic free zone, in Orhei. The car parts maker invested €30m in the project, of which €22m was spent on construction and the remainder €8m for equipment. The company acquired Volkswagen Bordnetze in 2006, originally a joint venture by Siemens and Volkswagen. Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze is a subsidiary of Sumitomo, which employs 26,000 people in 14 countries. It’s an international supplier of electronic wire harnesses and components for the automotive industry.
