According to the Central Federation of Finnish Real Estate Agencies (KVKL), the unusually hot summer is behind a slowdown in property sales. Sales of older apartments have dropped by 2 percent and new apartments by 9 percent in the first two quarters of 2018. However, sales of old apartments are still 3 percent higher than 2017’s average and new apartments by 22 percent compared to 5 year averages. Maria-Elena Cowell, chief executive officer at the Central Federation of Finnish Real Estate Agencies remains positive despite the downturn “The volume of sales has varied this summer. It’s true that the trade could be more lively during the market upturn and during a time of low interest rates, but the overall figures don’t indicate any significant changes over the previous year.”
