In the second half of 2017 54 percent of all home loans in Estonia were made with Swedbank, giving it the largest share in the market by some distance. The number of home loans issued has been growing year on year. In the second half of 2017, 7,000 home loans were issued, however this is still lower than the record 9,000 issued in the first half of 2007. In Estonia almost two thirds of home purchases are made without the use of mortgages. Of those taking a home loan the most common age group are 25-39 year olds and typically they’re purchasing an apartment. Other mortgage lenders in Estonia include SEB, which achieved 28 percent market share, Luminor, (16 percent) Danske Banke (8 percent) and LHV, whose loans made up 3 percent of the market.
