The Czech Railway Authority (SŽDC) plans to start work on a connection between Masaryk Railway station in the Prague center and Václav Havel Airport in Ruzyně after many years of discussions and hesitation. Negrelli’s viaduct, a historical 1,100-meter long railway bridge will be the first to get a facelift worth CZK 800m. The railway connection from Ruzyně to Veleslavín as well as the reconstruction of platforms and railways at the Masaryk and Bubny stations should follow. Up to 80 percent of the total cost of the CZK 3.5bn project will be financed by the EU. The project, however, must be completed no later than 2015 in order for the state to use to EU funds.
