There are intra-EU consultations on the closure of ports to Russian-flagged ships belonging to Russians, as well as controlled, chartered or operated by any person related to Russia, said Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk.
Talks on this matter are also conducted by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
“This decision was made primarily by Great Britain. Intra-EU consultations are being held, first of all, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki talks about it, talks in Brussels, takes initiatives related to it,” said Adamczyk on radio Jedynka.
He said that he had talked about the matter with the Minister of Transport of the Federal Republic of Germany. From the information it has obtained it appears that, in the view of the German Government, such a decision should be taken. He also stays in touch with the Minister of Transport of France.
“We are convinced that it should be a joint decision of the European Union, because then such sanctions take effect,” he emphasized.
Currently, talks are also under way in other countries.
“The Minister of Transport of Lithuania, with whom they will talk […], is in talks with the Baltic states: Latvia, Estonia, Finland. I think that after talks with Bulgaria, Romania and Italy, we will be able to make this ban a reality,” he pointed.
When asked about the scope of this prohibition, he said that it would be “a prohibition covering port possibilities as much as Britain put it in its prohibition that it is not only the flag, not only the owner of the ship, but above all a controlled, chartered vessel, or operated […] by any person associated with Russia will be excluded from serving in the ports of those countries that decide to do so. ”
“I hope that European states, that the European Union, the European Commission will lead to the fact that we will have the same restrictions as those adopted by Great Britain, because it makes sense then,” emphasized the minister.
