Tatra reports strong operational profit for 2019

12 May 2020

The Czech truck manufacturer Tatra produced an operational profit of CZK 365m for 2019, thanks in part to a CZK 2bn rise in revenues to CZK 5.88bn. “The second half of last year had a big impact on the positive profits results as the volume of production rose dramatically and we were able to sell off our inventory of vehicles,” said Tatra Trucks director Pavel Lazar. The company produced 1,181 trucks during 2019 and sold 100 more chassis as well. That marked a big improvement over the 790 trucks produced in 2018 when it managed to sell just 841. Tatra exports nearly 80% of its entire production.

One of the biggest markets for the company last year was Jordan where the company sold 300 chassis. Brazil remains an important market for Tatra, which is reportedly now considering whether to build a new factory in the country. Tatra began exporting trucks to Turkey last year while selling 78 in Austria thanks to cooperation with the company Rosenbauer. Lazar says that because its employees from Poland and Slovakia agreed not to leave during the Easter holidays, Tatra was able to maintain production throughout the pandemic and is currently meeting its targets for 2020.
