Czech Foreign Ministry has launched a tender worth CZK 144.3m (€5.6m) to build a new embassy in United States. The order includes architectural services and all stages of project documentation. Chalupa Architects design has been chosen in an international architectural competition back in 2010. Total construction costs are estimated to run to CZK 500m. The current building in Washington D.C. has served for more than 40 years and lacks many necessary infrastructure components, making reconstruction too costly. Construction of the new Y-shaped building should start in 2014. The Foreign Ministry says the costs should be covered from the sale of its properties in the Czech Republic and abroad.
