Tesla’s new German factory to include rooftop solar panels

17 July 2020

Elon Musk continues to make news through his Twitter account. This time, he’s published a picture of the planned Gigafactory Tesla is building outside Berlin for the production of electric cars. What’s attracted the most attention is the inclusion of solar panels on the huge building’s roof. There had been uncertainty on the subject until now, as there’s been no official mention of whether PV systems had been included in the building’s approval application. Such information is not required by the German project planning process at this stage. Tesla has already been cleared to start cutting down trees for the plant despite the fact that the project’s EIA is still ongoing. Authorities also recently gave the green light for work to go ahead on the factory’s foundation on the basis of a construction permit application that was filed on June 8. It’s expected that the factory’s entire approval process should be completed by the fall.
