Coalition government leaders have decided that budgetary salaries are to be increased from June, though they haven’t determined yet by how much. President Traian Basescu said that the number of employees in the public sector had fallen from 1.4 million in April 2009 to 1.2 million in January 2012. He also explained that in 2009 the total public sector wages made up 9.6 percent of GDP, but goal for 2014 was reduce this to 7 percent. After cutting salaries by 25 percent in July 2010, state employees received a 15 percent salary hike and a return to 2010 levels was in the cards.
