The Social Democrats are trying to sell Lannův palác in the center of Prague, next to the party headquarters – the People’s House, today’s Právo wrote. According to the advertisement, the offered price is 200 million crowns.
Through the sale, the party wants to delete the largest debt associated with the loan from Fiobanka. The palace has been leased to Pensum holding company Finep since 2014, which, according to the daily, is interested in buying the building.
The neo-Gothic building stands on the corner of Hybernská and Havlíčkovy streets opposite the Masaryk railway station building and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Its spiritual father is the Czech industrialist Vojtěch rytíř Lanna. The foundation stone was laid in 1857 and the entire building was then completed in 1859.
It is no exaggeration to say that the industrial history of our country was born in the premises of Lannův palác. Without the Lannů family, industry and transport would hardly exist in the Czech Republic in what was then Austria-Hungary. They were visionaries, industrialists, builders and co-creators of rail and water transport in the early era of industry in our country. Their entry into Czech history is unmissable, unique and, unfortunately, as is often the case, it is still unfortunately underestimated.
FINEP, reconstructed the palace and gave it its original appearance. The center of Prague and the Masaryk Railway Station area thus gained another repaired gem in the form of a complete reconstruction of the entire Lannův palác.
During the year-long reconstruction of the building, the restoration of historical elements also emphasized the sensitive incorporation of modern architectural solutions and accessories. The primary goal was to combine modern materials with the original historical elements of the palace, and thus connect the past with the present.
