Despite Budapest having severe financial problems due to Covid-19, the government still insists the city has to pay a solidarity contribution worth EUR 100 million. If the capital city doesn’t pay this solidarity tax the government will block it’s chance to receive development aid from the European Development Bank. The deputy mayor of Budapest, Mr Ambrus Kiss, has said that as a result of the economic crisis and lack of support for local businesses that do not receive support from the government, like in other regions of Hungary, there is a budget hole of EUR 411m for the years 2021 and 2022.
