The hospitality sector in Hungary make nearly EUR 1bn loss in annual turnover

17 December 2020

The annual turnover of the Hungarian hospitality industry has dropped by at least two thirds in comparison to 2019 when the turnover stood at approximately EUR 1.35bn. The crisis started in March, when the government called upon a national lockdown and closed borders. This meant that neither hotels or restaurants could operate. Despite support from the government in terms of reducing VAT rates and state subsidies many places have gone out of business.
