The most powerful wind power plant in Czechia could be built near the village of Stašov

The village of Stašov, near Polička in the Svitavsko region, could become the most powerful wind power plant in the Czech Republic. PV Consulting wants to build a wind farm with an installed capacity of up to 7.2 megawatts (MW). Residents who took part in the survey largely agreed with the plan, although some people criticised it, said mayor Alena Vendolská (SNK for the renewal of Stašov).

“People chose, that’s why we did the poll. Now, because we are elected by the citizens, we should act according to what they chose,” Vendolská said.

On the Drašarov hill near the road from Polička to Brněnec, the investor wants to build a mast with a rotor diameter of up to 162 metres and a power output of up to 7.2 MW; a smaller installation with a power output of 4.2 MW is also possible. The nearest houses are 850 metres away. For each MW of installed capacity, the company offers the municipality a payment of CZK 300,000 per year, which represents an annual benefit of CZK 2.16 million for the larger variant. Stasov has an annual budget of around six million crowns. The company also promises to supply the residents with the generated electricity for CZK 2.5 without VAT for 20 years. If the power plant is built, it would not be possible to build another one in the area, as the capacity of the high voltage lines would not be sufficient for them.

According to the mayor, the investor has already secured a reservation of transmission network capacity with ČEZ Distribuce. “Now we will negotiate a future contract to lease them the land. The project will have to undergo an EIA and the zoning plan will have to be changed. It’s a process that will take several years,” Vendolska said.

The largest wind power plant in the region so far, with a capacity of 4.2 MW, was built by S & M CZ near Žipotín in the Svitavsko region. It replaced one of the wind turbines that had been there since 2006. This made the permitting process easier, and the project did not require an EIA.

On 11 November, the village of Krouna in the Chrudim region and its local districts will hold a referendum on the construction of a large wind power plant in the local part of Františky. The same investor as in Stasov wants to build a wind farm with a capacity of up to 6.5 MW. On the same day, a referendum will also be held in Anenské Studánka in the Orlicko Ústí region, with people answering the question: “Do you agree with the construction of wind power plants in the territory of Anenská Studánka and with the conclusion of a cooperation agreement with the municipality on a joint project with NOHO Energy?”.

CEZ Renewable Resources also has plans to build about ten wind power plants. They would be built in several municipalities in the Svitavsko region, but the company has not yet disclosed specific data. Other wind farms could be in the Orlicko Ústí region.
