Following a €105m restoration project, the National Library of Romania in Bucharest is to begin re-opening gradually.
The first phase will see seven of the 14 reading rooms opened to the public, along with 300,000 books, or 40% of the library’s total collection.
The upgrade began in March 2009. In all, 14 reading rooms, 6 conference rooms, and an auditorium for 400 people will be opened. As for storage space for the institution’s books, 30,000 sqm will be available, along with 15,000 sqm of multipurpose space for exhibitions, a bookstore and cafes.
Three training rooms have been created for lectures, workshops and conferences, according to representatives of the Ministry of Culture.
