The railway connection to Prague Airport, including the new Dlouhá Míle transfer terminal, will be designed by AFRY. It succeeded in the tender of the Railway Administration with an offer of CZK 109.9 million for the elaboration of the project. The company announced this in a press release today. The route to the airport should start operating in 2028.
The Czech branch of AFRY, together with its Swedish sister company AF Infrastructure, will prepare the last stage of project preparation for the new construction of a four-kilometer double-track line between Prague-Ruzyně Station and Prague-Václav Havel Airport.
AFRY will be in charge of the documentation for the track building permit or the documentation for the issuance of a joint zoning and building permit for the new Prague-Dlouhá Míle railway station. Subsequently, he will also perform author’s supervision during their implementation. A digital building model (BIM) will also be included.
The price of the contract is almost ten million crowns lower than the price originally expected by the Railway Administration. According to AFRY, however, the prize itself was not the only criterion, as 40 percent of the winners were also determined by the experience of key experts.
“It is a strategically very important conventional new building, which is necessary not only to support the comfort and competitiveness of Václav Havel Airport. All important European airports have direct rail connections and Prague is lagging behind in this direction. with the international airport,” said Petr Košan, CEO of AFRY CZ.
The railway route will copy part of the Prague ring road and the adjoining part of the D7 motorway, then it will turn into the area of Terminals 1 and 2 of Ruzyně Airport. “There will be two excavated double-track tunnels, among others. The first approximately 119 meters long will be in front of the entrance to the Dlouhá Míle terminal, where the newly planned local road, bus terminal and P + R car park will be located. The second approximately 83 meters long will connect to the Dlouhá Míle stop , for which the railway line will run under the road K letiště,” described Martin Mikyska, head of the AFRY CZ rail construction department.
In addition to the runway to the airport, the Dlouhá Míle junction will be created in the development area near the runway of the airport, the Šestka shopping center and the Prague ring road. The terminal should connect rail with road and public transport. At the same time, a parking lot will be created.
The line to the airport is part of the railway from the center of Prague to Kladno, which is divided into several sections. It is currently the only one on the Negrelli Viaduct. Further sections will probably be built next year, and the reconstruction of Masaryk railway station should begin. The new connection is to be electrified, run on two tracks and should allow trains running to the airport and to Kladno to run at ten-minute intervals. The estimated price of the entire line is around CZK 40 billion.
