There are over 149,000 business entities in the Pilsen Region, 5% of Czechia

At the end of last year, 149,138 economic entities were registered in the Pilsen Region, one percent more year-on-year, ie 1,467 sole proprietors, companies and cooperatives. This is five percent of the total number in the Czech Republic. Most of them were active in trade, including vehicle repairs, industry, including manufacturing, and construction. Miloslav Chlad, the director of the regional administration of the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) in Pilsen, announced today. According to the Register of Economic Entities (RES), the numbers increased in all regions of the Czech Republic.

“The most numerous group of registered entities in the region by legal form consists of self-employed persons. At the end of last year, 104,638 natural persons doing business under the Trade Licensing Act were registered, which represents 70.2 percent of the total number of economic entities in the region,” said Chlad. This was followed by limited liability companies with a share of 11.5 percent.

There were 130 companies operating in the region, which employed 250 or more employees, of which 67 operate in Pilsen. The largest employer in the region is the University Hospital Pilsen with almost 5,000 people, other entities with 1,500 to 3,000 employees are the International Automotive Components Group (IAC) s.r.o. Přeštice, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, MD Elektronik in Chotěšov in the Pilsen region, Plzeňský Prazdroj a. S., Škoda Transportation a.s. in Pilsen, Daikin Industries Plzeň s.r.o. and the Regional Police Directorate of the Pilsen Region.

According to the number of employees, the so-called micro-enterprises are the most represented in the Pilsen Region, which are entities with up to ten employees, of which less than 10,000 were registered at the end of last year. Almost 60 percent of the entities do not state the number of employees and entities managed without employees make up a share exceeding 32 percent.

When comparing the seven districts of the region, it is evident that the advantageous locations of the city of Pilsen are used by most entities. “In the districts of Plzeň-město, Plzeň-jih and Plzeň-sever, 73.5 percent of the total number of companies in the region are registered. Of the total number of self-employed persons in the region, 60.1 percent are self-employed in these three districts.” said Cold.

According to the ČSÚ, there is a growing trend in the community of unit owners (+ 2.7 percent), trading companies (+ 1.7 percent) and sole proprietors (+0.9 percent). On the contrary, the number of cooperatives and liberal professions is declining, their numbers decreased by 5.5 percent year-on-year, respectively. about 1.4 pct.
