Tatry Mountain Resort (TMR) is planning to invest €40m into a leisure park and may consider building in the Czech Republic if plans in Poland fall through. The company, owned by the Slovak-Czech investment group J&T, wants to modernize the Wesołe Miasteczko (Happy City) leisure park in Katowice, Poland, but has been unable to reach a partnership agreement with the Silesia regional government, writes Hospodářské noviny. TMR says that unless an agreement is reached by the end of March, it will start looking for a different location. Ostrava in the Czech Republic is one option. TMR has already discussed the project with the owner of Vítkovice Holding, Jan Světlík, who is ready to provide land in the city’s Dolní Vítkovice area next to the Forum Nová Karolina for the park. The project may feature a funicular connecting Dolní Vítkovice with the shopping center. A greenfield project, however, would cost more than the planned €40m, and TMR would have to issue bonds to cover the additional costs.
