A new building that will serve as the headquarters for the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC), part of the Czech Technical University (ČVUT), opened in Prague 6-Dejvice on Tuesday. The educational and research center will cater to top scientists across various technical fields. It will help boost the digitalization of the industry, and the opening was attended by Czech President Miloš Zeman and Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka. The seven-story building, which looks like it was wrapped in plastic, cost ČVUT CZK 1.5bn and will allow the university to centralize its CIIRC staff in location next to the ČVUT campus in Prague 6. While it will accommodate 140 staff at the beginning, the number could increase to 350 within five years. CIIRC plans to attract both foreign and Czech scientists. The institute was established in 2013 and is involved in five key European research projects. The building replaces the former five-story student hall.
