Tourism association storm against bad weather reports

15 August 2012

Hungary’s Tourism Destination Management Association thinks better weather would help the country’s tourist industry, but failing that, more positive meteorology would be a help. The group is demanding that the depressing language used by Hungarian meteorologists gives potential visitors nothing to look forward to, and that this has to change.
The WSJ blog says meteorologists should try something like this instead: “It would be so much more considerate—and exciting language-wise—to report for instance, that “the refreshing cooler weather finally provides an excellent opportunity for touring the town without sweating or “there are exciting museums, theater and musical performances and affordable gastronomic experiences to try while its pouring down.”
It’s not clear what this has to do with meteorology, but it does suggest Hungary’s crisis has hit the tourist industry with the force of a hurricane.
