A month ago, the Czech Finance Minister Alena Schillerová brought up the idea of alloinwg towns the right to increase the level of real estate tax paid by the owners of industrial parks. Currently, there’s no way for mayors to do this without raising taxes for their residents at the same time. Towns have been calling for greater freedom on these taxes in order to have the necessary resources to build the infrastructure such investments required. Schillerova repeated the idea on an influential Sunday politics show on Czech Television and the story was even picked up by the biggest Czech daily Blesk. It writes that Schillerova will be sending the bill to the legislature for comments and objections. She estimates that the new tax regime could take effect by the beginning of 2021.
