Třebíč to complete new house with social flats in January, construction has become more expensive

A new municipal apartment building with social and starter flats in Modřínová Street in Třebíč will be completed in January next year. The construction has been extended by several months and has also become more expensive. The costs have risen from the original CZK 62 million to more than CZK 74 million. According to Mayor Pavel Pacal (Pro Třebíč), the city will allocate the flats on the basis of a special waiting list after the building is completed.

The six-storey apartment building with 14 social flats and 11 starter flats is the first one for which the town has used the subsidies. The building contains mainly two-room flats, some of which are one room larger. The flats range in size from 53 to 87 square metres. The building also includes a new parking lot. “Electricity meters need to be installed in the house. Of course, the parking lot is also part of the approval,” Pacal said.

The construction, which began last spring, was originally scheduled to be completed this fall. Pacal said the cost was first driven up by rising prices for building materials and energy, then by minor adjustments that were not part of the original project.

The city of 35,000 owns about 500 apartments. It has sold off some of its housing stock in the past. Now, Pacal said, apartments are sold only rarely, especially in buildings where most of the units were privatised.
