Třinecké železárny wants to invest CZK 1.6 billion this year, just like last year

The metallurgical company Třinecké železárny (TŽ) wants to invest CZK 1.6 billion this year, the same as last year. The largest projects using the company’s new technologies will increase the added value of the products. The company will give another almost CZK 70 million to ecological projects, according to Petra Macková Jurásková, spokeswoman for companies in the Třinecké železárny, Moravia Steel group.

TŽ CEO Jan Czudek stated that the company wants to make progress on projects related to reducing carbon dioxide emissions this year. “Central to operating in the steel market will be modernization actions aimed at increasing the added value of steel bars or the automation of production processes in the railway transport segment,” said Czudek.

One of the biggest projects is the completion of the construction of a new peeling line for 715 million crowns, of which 320 million remain to be invested. Thanks to the line, the company will increase the production capacity of peeled bars and improve their quality.

“We produce bars with a diameter of 16 to 80 mm. The new peeling line with a capacity of 90 kilotons a year will strengthen our position on the market. The rods are mainly used in the automotive industry and for the production of bearings.

In the rail rolling mill, the smelter plans to modernize the milling line for 170 million crowns. “There will be significant energy savings. The two existing lines will replace one fully automated unit using the existing proven milling technology in four consecutive operations,” said Mack.

The company will also reduce energy consumption thanks to extensive modernization of lighting in production halls, for which it wants to pay CZK 50 million over five years. The current lights will be replaced by modern LED lamps with intelligent control. “Energy savings by replacing lights alone reach 70 percent, with well-chosen regulation, savings of 84 percent can be achieved. In addition, the lifespan of LED luminaires is much longer than the original discharge lamps,” said the spokeswoman.

For more than CZK 40 million, the company wants to install two photovoltaic power plants this year. They will be built on the production halls of separate operations in Kladno and in the Old Town in the Uherské Hradiště region. Another photovoltaic power plant with a cost of approximately ten million crowns will be installed this year by the subsidiary Energetika Třinec in the Třinec smelter complex.

Třinecké železárny is the largest metallurgical company in the Czech Republic. In 2020, they achieved a profit of CZK 469 million and revenues of CZK 35.1 billion. TŽ’s best-selling product is long-rolled wire, other main products are special bar steel, drawn steel, rails, wide steel, seamless tubes or metallurgical semi-finished products. Including separate operations, TŽ has over 7,000 employees, and there are around 10,000 employees with its subsidiaries.
