Turnov approved a change to the zoning plan for the construction of apartments in the Dioptra area

3 January 2024

Turnov in the Semily region has approved a change to the zoning plan that will allow residential construction in the industrial area of the former Dioptra in Sobotecká Street. In the future, there could be 140 to 150 flats there. The mayor of the town of 14,000, Tomáš Hocke (Independent Block), announced today..

“Of course, this also means some residents for our city. And it also means an additional strain on amenities,” the mayor said. That is why, he said, they have concluded an agreement with the developer on a compensation contribution, which Turnov wants to use to build a kindergarten. The amount of the contribution will depend on how many metres of floor space the new apartments in the Dioptra complex will eventually have. “Its possible amount is between CZK 11.9 million and CZK 28 million,” the Mayor said.

Turnovská Dioptra ceased production activities at the Sobotecká Street site in early 2020. However, the TOPTEC research centre, which is a section of the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, continues to lease space there. According to the mayor, the lease contract expires in 2025. A new research facility worth about CZK 200 million should be built next to Dioptra. “The planning permission was issued before Christmas,” Hocke said.
