Tusk defending minister Mucha

29 February 2012

Of all the meetings Prime Minister Donald Tusk has had recently with his cabinet members, the one with the Minster of Sports Joanna Mucha was surely the most anticipated one. The talks however seem to have succeeded as Tusk has been defending minister Mucha from the criticism she’s endured over recent weeks. “In the Polish tradition, which is still a little bit chauvinistic, a female sports minister is not the norm,” the prime minister said, asking at the same time to give minister Mucha a “little more trust”. Mucha came under fire the moment she took office and has taken criticism of late for her handling of Euro 2012. “No one who’s taking their first steps in Polish politics, and who also has the misfortune to be a woman deserves such an incessant beating,” he said, adding that minister Mucha had taken her position at the most difficult possible moment.
