Andaz Prague, implemented by UBM Development, brings the splendor of the monarchy back to the capital of the Czech Republic. In just 2.5 years, the developer has transformed the neoclassical listed palace into a luxury lifestyle hotel under the “Andaz” brand.
“Prague is a city with an impressive history and culture, and we as hotel developers are very proud to be able to tell this impressive history of myths and legends through the design of our hotel,” said Martina Maly-Gärtner, UBM’s Chief Operations Officer. Hotel Andaz Prague is a major milestone in the company’s almost 150-year history,” continues Maly-Gärtner.
The exclusive five-star Hotel Andaz Prague, operated by the Hyatt hotel chain, is located in the historical center of Prague, directly on Senovážné náměstí. It offers 152 rooms, 24 suites and 5 conference rooms designed in partnership with Madrid’s Brime Robbins design studio. The “Andaz” brand, as a lifestyle luxury hotel focused on design, is synonymous with “unconventional, surprising, extraordinary,” says hotel director Doris Hecht. Headquartered in Chicago, Hyatt Hotels Corporation is the world’s leading hospitality company, comprising a total of 20 brands. The group’s portfolio includes more than 1,100 buildings in 70 countries on 6 continents, including 25 buildings under the “Andaz” brand.
Instead of the classic lobby, guests have three cozy “living rooms”, each accentuating a different theme. The first is the “Library”, which refers to the famous library of the Strahov Monastery. Another room plays with the glass art of the Czech Republic, which welcomes the guest upon entering the hotel in the form of a glass ceiling installation. And the third room is dedicated to alchemists who came to Prague on behalf of Emperor Rudolf II to produce “artificial” gold from various metals.
An important part of the overall concept was the offer of food and drinks, which should also appeal to local residents. In the restaurant “ZEM”, which has a separate entrance from the street and bears the design of the Blue Sky Hospitality design studio, traditional Czech cuisine is interpreted in a modern way. In the bar “MEZ” The “Klara Rott” spa, which will pamper you with products from the Czech organic cosmetics brand Klara Rott, is the perfect place to relax.
The building is a detached complex with two courtyards, delimited by two streets and a square. The complex was built between 1912 and 1916 for the “insurance of the sugar industry”, at that time an extremely important and profitable industry; therefore it was also known as the “Sugar Factory Palace”. Later, the building housed first the Ministry of Food and then the Investment and Postal Bank. The building has been partially listed since 1993.
