Unexploded WWII bomb found at COPA construction site

8 February 2013

An unexploded bomb from WW II was found at the COPA Centrum construction site in the center of Prague. Police closed the area around the Národní metro station for an hour at noon on Wednesday, bringing tram traffic to a halt. However, a full evacuation was not deemed necessary. The metro operation was not affected, as the Národní třída station has not been used since construction started on site.
Police spokesman Tomáš Hulan told ČTK that the artillery grenade found at the site was eight centimeters in diameter and 60 centimeters long. Experts removed it for disposal. The COPA Centrum building site has been plagued by underground surprises as archaeologists found Gothic-era cellars in the whole area when construction work first began.
