Tivadar Tulassay, president of the Semmelweis University medical school, resigned because he thinks that as a result of revoking Pál Schmitt’s degree the university’s leadership he has lost the support of the government. Moreover, he thinks it could be harmful for the university, leading him to the conclusion that he should resign. Meanwhile, president Schmitt announced that he is not willing to resign, claiming the scandal is an attempt to discredit the presidency and that he can not let the presidential role lose its high respect. Prime minister Viktor Orbán said that according to the Hungarian constitution, the presidency is inviolable so he can not be dismissed.
