Valamar Riviera, the biggest tourism company in Croatia, started opening tourist facilities on May 22nd. The first facilities to open were the Lanterna Premium Camping Resort in Poreč and La Pentola restaurant in Rabac. Another twelve Valamar camps opened in Istria and Kvarner within two weeks of this, while the opening of the Istra Premium Camping Resort is planned for June 15. The openings are a much-needed piece of good news for Croatia, whose tourist sector is expected to suffer serious losses this year. There are hopes that the expedited border crossing regimes that began in May for nearby countries will mitigate the damage. Agreements have been put in place with Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany and Poland, which make up almost 60 percent of Croatia’s tourist business.
