The prices of vegetables in Romania will double in March because of the bad weather which has affected production, said Cristian Rusu, association of fruit and vegetable producers Hortifruct. He added that the market will register a delay of at least one month of the Romanian vegetable production – lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and others, and will be 100% more expensive from now.
Nationally there are about 300 hectares of vegetable greenhouses, of which 75-80% have been affected by bad weather in the first half of February. Greenhouses of Popesti Leordeni, which has an area of 90 hectares was affected 65%.
