Victor Viorel Ponta was named Prime Minister designate of Romania on Monday, following meetings between President Basescu and the leaders of the political parties that collected enough votes to get into Parliament.
According to a press release of the Presidential Administration, Traian Basescu sent invitations to consultations to the leaders of parliamentary parties: Victor Ponta (PSD), Crin Antonescu (PNL), Vasile Blaga (PDL), Simona-Alice Man (People’s Party – Dan Diaconescu), Kelemen Hunor (UDMR), Daniel Constantin (PC), Gabriel Oprea (UNPR), Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu (Civic Force), Aurelian Pavelescu (PNTCD) and the representatives of national minorities – the invitations to consultations.
Each party was asked to bring a maximum of five officials. Ponta must now assemble a government, and present it to Parliament for that body’s approval.
