Viktoria Žižkov sent another purchase offer for the stadium to Prague 3

11 March 2021

Football Viktoria Žižkov sent the management of Prague 3 another offer to buy the stadium in Seifertova street. It offers an agreement under which the club would undertake to build a new stadium on the site of the existing one within 20 years of signing the contract of sale, and, if this is not possible for objective reasons, to build a training facility for young people there. The original stadium is to be played until construction work on the new one begins.

Entrepreneur Martin Louda became the owner of the club last January and subsequently began negotiations with the town hall to buy the stadium. Thanks to an exception, Žižkov now plays home matches of the second league in Prosek, as the obsolete complex in Seifertov does not meet the conditions for a professional license. However, he will not get another exception if the reconstruction of his stadium does not start.

Negotiations on the repurchase stalled last year, according to the management of Prague 3, the owner did not provide sufficient guarantees that the stadium and the land on which it is located will be permanently used for sports. The new offer, which the chairman of the club’s board of directors Milan Richter sent to councilors and city councils on Wednesday evening, is to address these reservations. The club offers the town hall the right of repurchase for a period of 20 years in case the owner does not build a new stadium on the land according to the agreement or does not build training facilities for young athletes.

The offer also includes that the club will immediately invest 25 million crowns in the stadium, because it is in a hurry due to the need to extend the professional license. It will then complete the reconstruction, provided that they agree with the town hall on the sale and a clear and binding schedule is set. The club also offers Prague 3 to give another 25 million crowns to the development of sports for young people in the city district.

Richter’s letter to councilors also includes a request that the city district decide on the offer at a council meeting on March 31. The reason is that the deadline for submitting a license application to the Football Association of the Czech Republic is March 29, with the possibility of extension to a maximum of April 13, and a specific plan for the reconstruction and future of the stadium must be submitted with the application.

“We firmly believe that the current wording of the offer is a good compromise for both parties,” Richter wrote. According to the offer, the purchase documentation should be prepared and signed by the end of the year, except for the purchase contract itself, and the purchase contract should be prepared immediately after approval by Prague 3 and the capital that owns the stadium. The city district only manages it. If Prague 3 agreed with the club, the sale would also have to be approved by the Prague-wide council.
