Local MPs have criticised the government for acting too slow to prosecute VW for deceiving its clients after last year’s emissions scandal and for failing to compensate their clients. The Transport Select Committee has accused VW of behaving “deeply unfair” by compensating affected US drivers but not those from the UK. Last year the scandal saw over 1.2 million UK cars fitted with software that cheated the emissions test.
The Common Transport Committee has disclosed that there is a potential “conflict of interest” when it comes to prosecuting the car company as the UK’s Vehicle Certification Agency has VW’s Škoda brand as its customer.
