Volkswagen reports that production at its plant in Slovakia fell 7.5 percent in 2014 to 394,474 cars last year, down from 426,000 in 2013. Still, the German car manufacturer completed more cars in 2014 than its two competitors in Slovakia:Kia and PSA. Volkswagen blames the drop on slow demand in Russia as well as the implementation of new processes on the Touareg, the new Porsche Cayenne and the Audi Q7. In 2015, the plant’s management hopes to produce as many cars as last year. Turnover at the Slovak division of Volkswagen decreased by 5.4 percent to €6.17bn. Volkswagen’s Slovak division currently employs 10,000 and the company plans to plow another €1.5bn into its further development by 2016.
