VW restarts Cayenne production in Bratislava

21 April 2020

Volkswagen’s plant in Bratislava opened on Monday to renew production, but production will take some time to get back up to full production. The company renewed production of new Porsche Cayenne SUVs but work on Škoda Citigo cars hasn’t begun yet. At the moment, just one shift is reporting for work, according to VW officials. Having shut down on March 17, Slovakia’s automobile sector began to wake up on April 6 when Kia’s factory in Žilina began making cars again. VW employs 12,000 in its plant outside Bratislava and in a parts plant in Martin. The company is analyzing supply chain issues as well as the current level of demand for automobiles as it plans its return to full capacity. In Zwickau, VW has begun preparing for production to begin, but no cars will be produced until Thursday and employees will be returning gradually until May 3.
