The state-owned owner and operator of railways in the Czech Republic, Správa železnic, is carrying out feasibility studies for the construction of a high-speed rail connection between Prague and Brno. If the investment worth roughly CZK 100bn were completed, travel times between the two cities would be reduced from two and a half hours to just 45 minutes. But the state-owned organization will have to overcome concerns of around 120 towns and villages along the route, such as those of Nové Sady, near Brno. “The route for the high speed rail runs along our water source,” he complained, adding that the level of information being provided by the state is just as bad as it was before. This is apparently a reference to the construction of the D1 motorway, along which the new rail lines would run between Brno and Jihlava. The goal at this point is to have begun construction along the entire length of new track by 2030. Speeds of up to 320 km/hr would be achieved once work is completed.
