The Czech Telecommunication Office wants to have an analysis that could bring savings for all those who pay for Internet data packages on their mobile phones. Based on the analysis, the Office plans to decide on the regulation of wholesale prices of three large network operators, T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone, which provide networks to virtual operators. In this way, mobile data at lower prices should gradually reach people, said Hana Továrková, chairwoman of the CTU, in an interview with HN.
“I think we will propose a cap on the wholesale prices at which the three current large operators sell data to virtual operators. The regulation could then last for three to four years, depending on the results of the analysis, which we will complete in the second half of September, “said Hana Továrková, CTO chairwoman, in an interview with HN.
Virtual operators are providers of telecommunications or data services without their own network. They lease capacities from three main operators on the Czech market.
Továrková stated earlier this month that from 2011 to the middle of last year, the price of mobile data fell by 88 percent. Nevertheless, the Czechia is still one of the more expensive countries in Europe, she said at the Information Security Summit conference, according to ČTK.
According to last year’s KPMG survey, 64 percent of Czechs use the data tariff in their mobile phones. However, most people do not want unlimited data, less than a tenth of them will purchase such a tariff. The reason for not being interested in unlimited connections is more often than not the high price, especially its non-use. Only 17 percent of respondents mentioned the price as the main obstacle to purchasing an unlimited tariff.
