Wilson: MIPIM 2013 subdued, but useful

15 March 2013

Bryan Wilson, founder of Wilson & Partners, said the yearly MIPIM gathering this year was useful but underwhelming, due in part to a general perception of lower attendance numbers and what he called “surprisingly poor stands.” Nevertheless, he reports, “we have had some interesting meetings with a potential new wave of investors looking at CEE for the first time.” The biggest concern from these investors was that Poland, and in particular Warsaw, had seen too much speculative development, meaning they would likely avoid that market for the next 12-18 months. He noted the now traditional complaint that banks were still unenthusiastic about distributing loans, but was pleased with his company’s annual dinner. “It was great fun with a great group of people, providing a brief break from the business atmosphere of the rest of MIPIM.”
