With occupancy of just 10%, over 70% of Serbian hotels remain closed

12 June 2020

Less than 30 percent of Serbia’s 380 hotels are currently open in Serbia, with overall accommodation occupancy running at a trifling 10.79 percent, according to the Business Association of Hotel and Catering Industry of Serbia. The situation is somewhat better in Belgrade, where 42 of the city’s 110 hotels were open, but occupancy in the Serbian capital is just 9.54%. It’s not looking much better over the summer, either. Confirmed reservations for June to September are for just 8 percent of the city’s capacity.

Hotels were ordered to close for nearly three months while the coronavirus pandemic reached its peak. The government is trying to promote the country’s hotels and tourist destinations among Serbs by providing them with tourist vouchers. Whether it will be enough to keep Serbs at home during the holidays, however, is doubtful.
