Wizz Air shutting down Prague base

22 January 2018

The discount airline Wizz Air has decided to close its base in Prague and will be cutting the number of connections it offers from Prague from nine to just three, beginning June 14. Destinations like Tel Aviv, Milan and Florence have been axed, with just London-Luton, Bari and Kutaisi remaining. No increase in the number of flights to the remaining destinations is planned. The company said that a lack of demand from customers in Prague had forced it to concentrate on more profitable routes, according to its director George Michalopoulos. Earlier in January, it annnounced that it would be adding a new base in Vienna. Wizz Air owns 88 Airbus A320s and 321s and operates 550 routes from 28 bases.
