WizzAir winning Malév slots

26 October 2012

Hungary’s no-frills airlines Wizz-Air announced that it has won Malév slots to Istanbul, Antalya and Moscow. The Civil Aviation Authority has granted the right to fly from Budapest to the three cities. The authority held tenders for control of the routes over summer, following the bankruptcy of Hungarian national carrier, Malév. Wizzair applied for four destinations, Moscow, Kiev, Tel-Aviv and Istanbul; it won the right to fly to Kiev and Tel-Aviv in September. The outcome still needs to be accepted by the Russian and Turkish authorities. Assuming this formal diplomatic procedure is completed, WizzAir can start selling tickets for the routes.
